The Asian Development Bank (ADB) Scholarships and Japan Scholarships Program (JSP)offers about 140 postgraduate scholarships a year for studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions.

Benefits

• Full tuition fees
• A monthly allowance for expenses, housing, books and instructional materials
• Medical insurance and travel
• For research scholars, a special grant may be available for thesis preparation

Eligible Countries

Asian Development Bank (ADB) Scholarships and Japan Scholarships Program (JSP) are available to citizens of the following countries/areas:

• Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Cook Islands, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Fiji, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Kyrgyz Republic, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nauru, Nepal, Niue, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Viet Nam

Priority areas:

Postgraduate studies in the following areas are covered by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Scholarships and Japan Scholarships Program (JSP):

• Agriculture
• Environment
• Management
• Natural Resource Management
• Science and Technology
• Any other Development-related fields

Requirements:

Applicants are required to meet the following eligibility criteria for Asian Development Bank (ADB) Scholarships and Japan Scholarships Program (JSP):

• National of an ADB borrowing member
• Have Unconditional Offer Letter of admission to an approved MA course at participating academic institution
• A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with excellent academic record
• Minimum of two years of full-time professional working experience
• Proficiency in English communication skills (oral and written)
• Not more than 35 years old at the time of application. In very few exceptional cases, for programs which are appropriate for senior officials and managers, the age limit is 45 years old
• Generally in good health and state of mind
• Agree to return to his/her home country after completion of studies under the Program
• Applicants living or working in a country other than his/her home country are not eligible for scholarship

Application:

Applicants should request information and application forms from the chosen academic institutions. Applicants are required to ask the academic institution for admission and consideration for the ADB-JSP Scholarship Program. The completed application form and required documentation for admission, including the ADB-JSP application sheet form, should be submitted to the academic institution.

Applicants are required to submit their latest Income tax return or certification of their annual salary/monthly salary, whichever is available. They should also submit a certification of family income (parent’s income).

Applicants are required to send applications for scholarships at least six months prior to the planned time that they wish to commence studies. Please refer to the normal month of intake and deadline of application in the participating academic institutions.
