Academic Research

These projects are based on creating and furthering knowledge for companies, and public and private institutions for structuring and solving complex problems.

Industry & Innovation

These projects are based on investigating innovation opportunities in a variety of industries. As an example, they can try to identify the benefits at the company level of the new technologies available in the market.

Entrepreneurship & Hi-tech start-ups

These projects are based on investigating entrepreneurial opportunities with a particular focus on hi-tech start-ups. These projects try to analyze the scenario of high-tech start-ups and evaluate their impacts at different levels.

Social Impact & Engagement

These projects have the aim of understanding potential positive changes that an organization can implement to address a pressing social issue and favoring people’s engagement for social and community development.

Advanced Interdisciplinary Training

The students refine their ability to make a positive impact on society and the environment.
The educational core of the ASP path is contextualization and problem definition of complex problems (problem setting), as well as the ability to deal with problems critically originated from the multiplicity of points of view and sensitivities involved (challenge the picture). This does not exclude and indeed lays the foundations for actual problem solving (problem-solving). From a practical point of view, this intent translates for ASP in a path of Intensive Schools structured around complementary topics and in an application project of multidisciplinary character, developed by the students in parallel to the path of a master’s degree.

In this context, the disciplinary technical expertise, supported by the industrial, professional, research, and other non-academic institutions experiences, helps students to define viable solutions, supporting the dialectical process open to other cultures and sensitivities, also thanks to a one-to-one mentoring program, which foresee the participation of managers and CEOs of industrial groups and national and international experts.

Another important aspect of the ASP training path is the development of a training model, based on the collaboration between talented students of international honor programs, like, for example, the collaboration with the Delft University of Technology.

ASP Diploma & Diploma Supplement

The ASP-Alta Scuola Politecnica, given the high academic value recognized to its program, will award students of all cycles the “ASP Diploma” approved jointly by the Politecnico di Milano and the Politecnico di Torino.

Additionally, the Diploma Supplement (DS), the only officially recognized supplementary document at the end of the university course, will include the ASP career for each graduating student from the Alta Scuola Politecnica, both nationally and internationally. The Diploma Supplement (DS) is a document that integrates the official qualification obtained at the end of a course of study at a university or higher education institution.
The DS describes the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies undertaken and completed by the student according to an 8-point standard model, developed on the initiative of the European Commission, the Council of Europe and UNESCO. It facilitates the knowledge and evaluation of new academic qualifications by employers and helps the academic and professional recognition of Italian qualifications abroad and the international free movement of graduates.

Therefore, ASP students at the end of the program will receive both the “ASP Diploma” and the “Diploma Supplement” integrated with the ASP activities.

Students should submit a thesis work under the supervision of a tutor from their own Politecnico and a supervisor from the partner Politecnico, given the involvement of both universities. Finally, students’ own university will discuss the thesis in regular graduation sessions.

ASP Alumni Association

The ASP Alumni Association is the network putting together students who graduated from Alta Scuola Politecnica and professors, board, and staff who desire to stay connected with such community. It counts 700 members based in more than 20 countries in the world.

The declared vision of the ASP Alumni Association’s is to inspire and connect talents, to make an impact on society. The association aims therefore to help alumni to build strong, productive alliances within the community – alliances that are enriching throughout all stages of their careers. Through the Association, alumni have opportunities to connect to ASP and to each other, and to advance their careers through events, career resources, networking, and late-breaking faculty research. This contributes to consolidate friendships tied during the two years of the ASP program, and to create new ones among alumni of different ASP cycles, but sharing the same values.

ASP Courses

ASP courses are cross-cultural and built on top of the technical knowledge and skills acquired by the students in their specific master’s degree courses. Their goal is to discuss interdisciplinary issues common to any innovation project in Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning and Design.

Courses are held in the form of Intensive Schools: Winter, Spring and Summer Schools.

Students are required to attend all the Schools, which are delivered in a hybrid mode: residential activities and online synchronous and asynchronous lessons. The teaching style is a mix of formal lectures, seminars, and group and personal work. The focus is on learning instead of teaching, with a strong emphasis on the interaction between lecturers, who are Italian and international prominent professors, and students.

Teamwork and discussion are assisted by tutors, as part of the activity is developed in small student groups, with the aim of creating team spirit, learning through the observation of peers, developing soft communication skills, and promoting cultural enrichment.

ASP Projects

  • Students participate to multidisciplinary projects, focusing on real and relevant problems, proposed as a collaboration between universities and external institutions (i.e., firms, governmental or research institutions).
  • Project teams consist of 6/7 students from different schools and are therefore intrinsically multidisciplinary. Each project team is assisted by tutors with a multifaceted background, selected among the Faculty of Politecnico di Milano and Politecnico di Torino as well as among experts of the proposing external institutions. Tutors advice students and periodically review their intermediate results.
  • Teams are provided with funds that allow them to make study trips, attend conferences, buy books and materials to help develop the project. The project plan and budget is defined by the team and agreed with the tutors.
