About Abertay University
In the Scottish city of Dundee, there is a public institution called Abertay Institution, originally known as the University of Abertay Dundee. The Dundee Institute of Technology was founded in 1888 thanks to a bequest made in 1872 by Sir David Baxter, 1st Baronet of Kamaron, for the foundation of a mechanics’ institute in Dundee. It was one of the first to be declared a central institution, analogous to an “industrial university,” and the Scottish Education Department recognised it as an educational centre as early as 1902. In 1994, Abertay was given university status.
In 1997, Abertay introduced the first computer games degree in the world, and in 2017, the university hosted a series of activities to mark 20 Years of Games. Beginning in 2006, Abertay was also the first institution to provide a degree in ethical hacking.
