Joint PhD Scholarships and University Teaching Trajectory

Applications are invited for Leiden University Netherlands Scholarships for a joint PhD and university teaching trajectory at the The Faculty of Science and the Division Drug and Target Discovery of LACDR.

Details of Scholarship

The applicant in Leiden University Netherlands Scholarships will work in the Division of Drug Discovery and Safety of the LACDR on combined research and teaching track. This five-year track ends with a PhD as well as a university teaching qualification (BKO). The research and teaching responsibilities are focused on advancing the application of omics data in cancer research. Cancer is a complex whole-body chronic disease, associated with a series of molecular alterations at the level of genome, transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome. The biological relationships that underlie development and progression, become apparent only through an integrated approach. During the course of this track you will develop an integrative framework for the use of transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomic datasets to unravel cancer phenotypic behavior and drug sensitivity; design and perform experiments to test predictions made, and apply this knowledge in redesigning a BSc course.

Benefits of Scholarship

A full-time one year term at Leiden University Netherlands Scholarships with the possibility of an extension of  an extra 4 years based on a positive evaluation of the progress of the thesis, personal capabilities and compatibility.

Salary range from €2,325.- to €2,972.-gross per month (pay scale P,in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).

Eligibility for Scholarships at Leiden University Netherlands

To be eligible for scholarship position, applicants must have:

  • MSc degree in Biopharmaceutical/Biomedical/Bioengineering Sciences, or similar
  • Passionate for and experienced in (university) teaching
  • Excellent ability to think conceptually and quantitatively
  • Experience in or affinity with data processing, bioinformatics, cancer research
  • Excellent ability to communicate in English and Dutch, both orally and in writing
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work independently
