However, the world faces significant water challenges that threaten to undermine progress toward achieving global health goals. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 2.2 billion people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water, while 4.2 billion people lack access to safely managed sanitation services. These challenges have far-reaching implications for health, leading to a higher risk of infectious diseases, malnutrition, and other health problems.
