Veterinarian (Small Animal)

The Companion Animal Health Centre (CAHC) is located on the University of Adelaide’s Roseworthy Campus surrounded by great lifestyle opportunities including the Barossa Valley, beaches, sporting activities, benchmark schools and shopping facilities.

The caseload is varied including wellness services supported by dedicated GP nurses, dentistry, surgery, imaging and medicine cases. There is also access to all imaging modalities including CT and the support of a dedicated radiographer.  The CAHC has access to an onsite veterinary diagnostic laboratory enabling direct contact with pathologists for case discussion and best outcomes for patients. As a GP in the primary opinion service (Veterinarian – Small Animal) you will enjoy strong support from a lively group of experienced academic specialists with challenging cases and an opportunity for case discussion daily with input from all staff.

You will also have the opportunity to involve highly motivated final year veterinary students in clinical case management. By providing students with additional learning opportunities where appropriate and demonstrating the highest standard of clinical and professional behaviour, you will be making an important contribution to the clinical education of the next generation of veterinarians.

You are an enthusiastic, team-oriented veterinarian with a strong drive to deliver the highest standards of clinical service and care. You have proven experience in first opinion care and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The Veterinary Health Centre (VHC) is the University of Adelaide’s clinical teaching facility for veterinary students and offers the general public and referring veterinarians a range of first opinion, ambulatory and specialist veterinary services across all animal species. The Companion Animal Health Centre (CAHC), a unit of the VHC, is a leading-edge general practice, emergency and referral care veterinary hospital offering advanced technology, equipment and professional services to treat small companion and native animals of all species. The CAHC provides a clinical training environment for final year veterinary students working under the close supervision of experienced veterinary surgeons, nurses and support staff.

To be successful you will need:

• Veterinary qualification with eligibility to be registered as a veterinarian in South Australia along with a minimum of 2 years veterinary experience in first opinion services.
• Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of clients and team members.
• Demonstrated enthusiasm and experience in assisting, teaching or mentoring others.
• Demonstrated high level written communication skills, including the ability to keep detailed, accurate medical records and write professional referral letters and client correspondence.
• Demonstrated organisational skills with proven ability to effectively prioritise work and balance competing deadlines to achieve accurate, high quality work outcomes.

Continuing position available. Monday to Friday, 36.75 hours

Further study and continuing professional development activities are encouraged and supported with time off and up to $3,000 per annum available towards approved activities.
