Undergraduate Scholarships 2023 in Japan
Applications are invited for the Fully funded MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship in Japan for Canadian students. Undergraduate scholarships are financial awards that are designed to support students who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree. Details of Scholarship:
Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships to Canadian students wishing to pursue their undergraduate studies at a Japanese university.
MEXT will decide the university which a grantee will enter in consultation with the university and the preparatory educational institution and in careful consideration of the results of the academic examinations in the First Screening conducted at the Japanese Embassy or Consulate (hereinafter referred to as “Japanese diplomatic mission”) in the country of applicant’s nationality, academic achievement at the preparatory educational institution, the grantee’s proposed major subject, and the receiving capacity of the university. No objection by the grantee against the decision will be allowed.
Benefits under scholarship:
Successful MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship in Japan applicants will receive the following benefits:
- Full tuition fee
- Monthly allowance of 117,000 yen per month
- A supplemental regional allowance of 2,000 yen or 3,000 yen per month will be added to the monthly scholarship amount for the grantees studying or conducting research in specially designated regions.
- Round-trip flight between Japan and Canada
Eligibility for the scholarship:
To be eligible for Fully funded MEXT Undergraduate scholarships, an applicant must:
- be a Canadian citizen
- have a high school diploma or higher
- be born on or after April 2, 1995 (for the 2023 recruitment)
Application:
Applicants are required to submit the following documents with the application for MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship in Japan:
- Application Form (a prescribed form for 2023)
- Direct Placement Preference Form (a prescribed form for applicants for direct placement only)
- Academic transcripts for all school years of school/university attended
- Recommendation letter from the principal or the teacher of the last school attended
- Medical certificate (a prescribed form for 2023)
- Certificate of enrolment (for an applicant currently enrolled in a university)
- Certificate of passage of university entrance qualification examination (if applicable)
