At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, invites applications for a  researcher to Johan Zelanos research position which focuses on clinical and epidemiological research on acquired epilepsy, at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience.

The research group belongs to the Institute of neuroscience and physiology and is a part of the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular and Translational medicine, (www.wcmtm.gu.se), which means many excellent opportunities for career development. The research group is run by Johan Zelano and consists of five PhD-students, one clinical study coordinators and undergraduate students. We do clinical studies collecting biobanks linked to clinical follow-up. In addition, we do epidemiological research based on national registers. The group has multiple national and international collaborations.

Job assignments

In 2020 we started a large biobank study of epilepsy and are now looking for a researcher to work on analyses of potential biomarkers and other data from our clinical studies.

In the project, blood- and other tissue samples will be analyzed, mainly through proteomics purchased from the Gothenburg university core facility or collaborators like SciLife lab, but there will be ample opportunity for adaptation of the project according to the candidates wishes. There are also ample opportunities to engage in the groups epidemiological research. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the academic environment of the research group, and there are many opportunities for supervision of PhD-students and undergraduate students.

Qualifications

The position requires a PhD in medicine/medical sciences.

In addition, experience of biobank studies in the Swedish health care, experience of experimental epilepsy research, and experience of register-based research as well as good knowledge of English are required.

The following qualifications are meritorious: experience in proteomics studies, especially in epilepsy and knowledge of epilepsy.

Great emphasis is placed on social skills and personal suitability.

Employment

The employment is limited (temporary) for 18 months, 100% of full-time and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date; as soon as possible or as agreed.
