The Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, at the Institute of Medicine, conducts translational research primarily on metabolism, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease in order to improve health and healthcare in the community. The overall goal is to create an excellent translational research environment of a very high international standard.

The postdoctoral project focuses on defining the role of PI3K isoforms in the development of obesity and insulin resistance using genetically modified mice, pharmacological inhibitors, viral vectors and primary cell culture (mouse and human).

Role of PI3K signaling at the interface of Obesity, Diabetes and Cancer

Job assignments

100% research, with pre-clinical studies (mice/rats ad primary cell culture, human and rodents), data analysis and organization, group presentations as well as participation to external conferences.

Research in our laboratory is focused on the study of the role of PI3K signaling at the interface between metabolic homeostasis and tissue homeostasis, with direct implication to the therapy of Obesity, Diabetes, and Cancer.

Explain the role of PI3K isoforms in diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance.

The post-doctoral project will focus on defining the role of specific PI3K isoforms in the progression of obesity and insulin resistance using genetically modified mice, pharmacological inhibitors, viral vectors and primary cell cultures (mouse and human).

Eligibility

To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject. Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years from the application deadline.

Candidates at her/his first post-doctoral experience will be prioritized.

Assessment

A Ph.D. in the Medical Sciences, Life Sciences, Pharmacological Sciences, or Biological Sciences is required. Individuals with previous experience in metabolism, adipose tissue biology, energy balance, in-vivo, or primary cell culture models relevant to the proposal are encouraged to apply as these characteristics will be prioritised.

Fluent in English both written and spoken, you have a collaborative approach.

Large emphasis will be placed on personal suitability for the specific project and laboratory research interests.
