The Max Planck Institute of Biophysics is a leading international research institute that uses biophysical, biochemical and computational methods to investigate the structure, dynamics and function of cellular systems at the molecular scale. It consists of four scientific departments, multiple research groups and scientific core facilities, with about 200 employees from more than 25 countries. The Department of Molecular Sociology (Beck Lab) studies the structure and function of very large macromolecular assemblies with a focus on in situ structural biology. We are particularly interested in the nuclear transport system, Drosophila development, protein complex assembly, protein transport, protein homeostasis, membrane biophysics and RNA biology. We use a broad spectrum of techniques ranging from cryo electron tomography, life cell imaging, quantitative proteomics, image processing and molecular modeling to biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biological assays. We seek to recruit a Lab Manager (f/m/d)
Responsibilities will include:
- First port of call to ensure the daily operation of the wet laboratory
- Participation in the training of PhD students and postdoctoral fellows
- Participation in individual research projects, e.g., the detailed experimental design
- Budgetary management
- Supervision of technical personnel
- Organization of Lab events, such as retreats
- Monitoring of the laboratory resources
Your qualification and personal attributes:
- PhD degree and considerable postdoctoral experience in molecular biology or related disciplines
- Scientific track record that underlines previous productivity
- In depth knowledge of genetic manipulation techniques in mammalian cells, Drosophila or yeast
- Excellent English communication skills
- Take pride in contributing to scientific team work
- Enjoy teaching and supervision
In depth experience in one or more of the following research fields will be a benefit:
- Drosophila biology and genetic manipulation
- Mass spectrometry-based proteomics
- Life cell imaging
- Screening methods and large-scale data analysis
- Protein transport, RNA biology, development, protein homeostasis
- In situ structural biology, advanced cryo-EM specimen preparation
