Part-Time Study

When you study part-time at HAW Hamburg, the typical course of study extends over a longer period of time on an individual basis. There isn’t a distinct program with a distinct curriculum. Students have the option of cutting their study load in half each semester.

Life In Hamburg

Tuition Fees

When you are deciding whether to pursue university studies, questions related to costs, financing, and funding opportunities play an important role. Most degree courses at HAW Hamburg require students to pay a semester contribution but not tuition fees.

Please note that the semester contribution has been increased for the winter semester 2023–24. Because this winter semester will, for one time only, be seven months long due to the adjustment of the semester dates, the price of the semester ticket will increase by the share paid for one month. 

Health And Nutrition

An especially relevant activity for Hamburg is the social-space-oriented approach, which enables specific, neighborhood-based analyses. The projects in the Health and Nutrition research program include the prevention of anxiety disorders at school, the production and characterization of virus-like particles as a vaccine for dengue fever, and the investigation of the suitability of turkeys with alternative origins for an organic husbandry system.

The Competence Center for Health (CCG) aims to improve access to key health-related services and goods and thus ensure more equality in the provision of healthcare.

IT, COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA

The digitalization of practically all areas of society is a key area of research at HAW Hamburg. This is reflected in the central importance of digitalization within the university’s current structural and development plan.

In the IT, Communication, and Media research program, scholars from the Department of Computer Science (Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science) as well as the Department of Information and the Department of Media Technology (Faculty of Design, Media, and Information) focus on questions related to digitalization. The projects cover topics such as virtual and augmented reality, the economics and public value of radio in cyberspace, and the development of a model for decisions on the relevance of search results based on individual user criteria.

Mobility And Transport

The projects within the Mobility and Transport research program address a range of topics, such as developments in the field of signal processing for automotive electronics, simulations of the dynamics of radial shaft seals, and repair methods for integral fiber-reinforced plastics.

In the area of aeronautical engineering, HAW Hamburg has played a leading role in the development of cabin systems. Numerous collaborative projects with key actors in the region’s aeronautical engineering industry ensure the intensive transfer of research findings. Digitalization has opened up many options for technical developments in aeronautical and automotive engineering, necessitating a systematic analysis of what is possible and the constructive development of new approaches. Through the Mobility and Transport research program, HAW Hamburg contributes significant know-how in this area.

Diverse Research Activities

The projects captured under the label ‘Diverse Research Activities’ address current societal challenges and represent an area of the university’s research with growth potential.

The costs of the chosen students for the HAW Hamburg Scholarships 2024 in Germany were completely paid for by the German government. The advantages for international students are as follows:

• Selected candidates will be awarded €1,800 to fund one semester of undergraduate or graduate study at Hamburg’s HAW University.
