Details of John Monash Scholarships

John Monash Scholarships recognize excellence and leadership and celebrate one of Australia’s finest leaders: General Sir John Monash. Scholarships are awarded annually to outstanding Australian graduates to support them with postgraduate study at the world’s best universities. Successful applicants have demonstrated excellence in their field, leadership potential, and a vision for how they can contribute to a better Australia.

Benefits

  • Annual stipend of AUD $70,000 per year for up to a maximum of 3 years (AUD $210,000) for postgraduate study (depending on the length of the degree at a full-time study load)
  • Support to travel to the location of your postgraduate study overseas from Australia

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for a John Monash Scholarships, applicant must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Have completed or be about to complete a full degree from an Australian University
  • Be planning to undertake postgraduate study at an overseas university commencing in the calendar year following the year of application and selection; it is not necessary to have already been accepted to the institution at the time of applying

Criteria for the John Monash Scholarships

In awarding John Monash Scholarships, factors considered include:

  • Excellence in the candidate’s field of expertise – Usually a university degree obtained with outstanding results, but can also be demonstrated through prizes, awards, publications, performance, exhibitions and professional endeavours
  • Leadership – Applicants should demonstrate leadership experience or potential in the field of study, professional environment and/or the community
  • Research project or study program – Specific, well-developed case for support for the applicant’s study at the best overseas university in their field. It is not necessary to have been accepted at the institution at the time of applying for the Scholarship
  • Proposed career pathway– Applicants must present a credible pathway, addressing an issue the applicant is passionate about, and which will be of benefit to Australia
  • 3 references: outlining the applicants abilities and endorsing the proposed course of study – these may be any combination of academic, personal and professional

Applicants are required to submit following:

  • Proof of Citizenship
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Academic Transcripts
  • Names and emails of three referees
  • A budget to explain how you plan to cover tuition and living expenses
