The UK Government’s international awards Fully Funded Chevening Scholarships United Kingdom aimed at developing future world leaders. It is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organizations and offers two types of award – Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Fellowships – the awardees of which are selected by British Embassies and High Commissions throughout the world.

The Chevening Scholarships UK Programme includes a tailored engagement program creating opportunities for scholars to network with each other as well as alumni, the FCO, high profile speakers, and partner organizations. Award recipients receive:

  • University tuition fees
  • A monthly stipend
  • Travel costs to and from the UK
  • An arrival allowance
  • A homeward departure allowance
  • The cost of one visa application
  • A travel grant to attend Chevening events in the UK

 Eligibility:

To be eligible for Fully Funded Chevening Scholarships UK, the applicant must;

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening eligible country
  • Return to your home country for a minimum period of 02 years after your award has ended
  • Have an undergraduate degree, enabling you to gain entry into a postgraduate program at a UK university. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honors degree in the UK.
  • Have a minimum of 02 years’ work experience (which may be up to five years for fellowship programs, so please refer to your home country page for further details)
  • Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by July 15, 2021

English Language Requirement

Chevening accepts English language tests from the following:

  • Academic IELTS
  • Pearson PTE Academic
  • TOEFL iBT
  • C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge English: Advanced [CAE])
  • Trinity ISE II (B2)

English language exemptions

The applicants from the following countries are exempt from submitting an English language test for a Chevening Scholarships United Kingdom Award:

The United States, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, St Kitts, and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent, and the Grenadines, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica Trinidad, and Tobago, and British Overseas Territories

Courses

Applicants are required to choose three courses carefully based on your current or future career goals. These can be three different courses at the same institution, or three related courses across up to three different universities. Once chosen, you will not be able to change your course choices after submitting your application, unless you are granted permission to do so at the interview stage. For scholarship, you must get an unconditional offer for one of your course choices by July 15, 2021 deadline. You need to apply separately to your selected courses directly via the university

The courses you choose must be:

  • Full-time
  • Start in the autumn term (usually September/October)
  • Taught master’s (i.e. not research-focused MRes programmes)
  • Lead to a master’s degree qualification
  • Based in the UK

Before submitting their Chevening application, successful applicants are required to meet the minimum work-experience requirement for the award that they are applying to:

  • Chevening Scholarships United Kingdom – 02 years’ work experience
